LADIES IN RETIREMENT

We started our new season with a chilling, atmospheric drama, Ladies in Retirement, set in a lonely house on the marshes, in Victorian times, it is occupied by some moody, and eccentric characters.

Leonora Fiske, a one time gaiety girl and her housekeeper /companion, Ellen Creed. Ellen's two strange sisters arrive for and extended visit, thinking this will be their permanent home, but, Leonora objects to their presence, thus forcing Ellen to drastic measures. The untimely arrival of Ellen's nephew, Albert, (a nasty piece of work,) forms a relationship with the Lucy the maid, together they reconstruct the crime with horrifying accuracy, although a shocking play, the characters, come over with an earthy humour. Based on a true story, this play promises to be a super start to another dynamic season at The Salon.

Phyllis Vosper directed a gifted cast, some familiar faces, and a warm welcome to the newcomers to our stage. (Fri 17th Sept until Tues 21st)
