The Salon Varietés Theatre will kick off the 2008/2009 season with something completely different - the movie premiere of Wrinkly Film's comedy movie -
BLACK FOREST GATEAU
For one night only, Saturday 13th September, the theatre will be transformed into a cinema with a large screen, a powerful projector and Dolby Digital surround sound. It's an occasion not to be missed.
Written and directed by Mike Naylor, the film stars many of the Salon's most familiar faces and has taken over a year to complete. This is no amateur movie though.

The cast includes Colin Pollard, Lynn Halliday, Stephen Tomlinson, Dorothy Clarke, Trevor Cooper, Gloria Harding, Ken Stevens, Sheila Wohlmuth and Carlos Cortez, to name a few. If you like TV programmes such as Last of The Summer Wine or Grumpy Old Men, then you're in for a treat.
Set on the mediterranean coast, a group of retired Brits are spending their winter months, reminiscing and putting the World to right. Inspired by a recent news item about a bungled post office robbery, they begin to think that they could plan the perfect heist...
Further information can be found on the Wrinkly Film website at http://wrinklyfilm.com/ where you can even view a few short clips.
Hope to see you at the premiere.
ARSENIC AND OLD LACE
Fri. 19th. – Wed. 24th. Sept. Our next season opens on the 19th. September with the hilarious black comedy “Arsenic and Old Lace” by Joseph Kesserling and directed by Peter Brooks. It played for 1500 performances on Broadway but it has become best known through the film adaptation which starred Cary Grant and was directed by Frank Capra. This clever farce revolves around Mortimer Brewster, a theatre-hating drama critic who must deal with his crazy, homicidal family and local police in Brooklyn, as he debates whether to go through with a honeymoon with the woman he loves and has recently agreed to marry. His family includes two spinster aunts who have taken to murdering lonely old men by poisoning them with home-made elderberry wine laced with arsenic, cyanide and “just a pinch” of strychnine; a brother who believes he is Teddy Roosevelt and digs locks for the Panama Canal in the cellar of the Brewster home (which then serve as graves for the aunts' victims); and a murderous brother who has received plastic surgery performed by an alcoholic accomplice, Dr. Einstein to conceal his identity and now looks like horror film actor Boris Karloff. The cast includes Bobbye Aaron, Jan Wallis, Francis Butler, John Foulkes Jones, Martina McCormack, Rob Saint, Stephen Burns plus a few old Salon favourites and some very new faces.
Arsenic and Old Lace runs from 19th. – 24th. September.
Book early to avoid disappointment for this fun night out.
